A Creative Drawing Assignment
November 28th, 2007
Drawing a portrait using "mechanical" lines is a part of the assignment given after session with Javed Jalil. I chose a reference that I've used . I know I shouldn't be asking but if you squint you'll get a better feel of what I was trying to achieve :D
I'm not sure it meets the given requirements. I shall find out next week :P I did enjoy making it this morning. Unlike all the earlier exercises we've been allowed to use monochromatic washes for the home assignment this week.
Creative Drawing and Art Appreciation 3
November 28th, 2007
Yesterdays CD & AA session was a discussion about using mechanical lines to draw. The orderliness, precision and the weight of such lines. We had a demo by Javed and then drawings of and were shown and discussed. Both were influenced by Picasso and Cubism and expressed form in terms of line, plane and colour.
The exercise for the day was to make two drawings spontaneously using mechanical lines. We were to continue using black, wet medium - pen, ink, brush, markers etc. A third drawing was to be made using an office stapler as the take off point. I used a thick black marker for all three.
I am enjoying these sessions and the thrill of allowing myself to put whatever comes to mind on paper regardless of what it may mean. All this is a part of my subconscious mind and I am keen on learning to interpret them :D
My friend is John Mayer
November 21st, 2007

I wake up every morning early, just to smile to myself that I have a lot of things that I can be thankful of. My fiance will call me every weekend morning just to say "Good morning dear". We chit chat like we never known each other with laughter, tease and joy, despite the fact that we have known each other for nearly 6 years. My fiance and I planned to get married on this upcoming January 2008. My heart are pounding with excitement, can't wait for another phase of my life.
cabaret
November 19th, 2007
today i did an appaling exam, the kind i worry i've failed. that doesn't happen often. we were all in the same boat, but that doesn't help much when i don't find out my marks till next monday, and if i failed i have to sit down there and then to do the retest, or fail the subject. i can't really study just in case, i've worked on almost everything i could find already, and have seven more exams to prepare for anyway
the afternoon i procrastinated away pleasantly and productively, chatting to many people and mending clothes. when the sun started to set i finally attacked my work for the next exam, in front of a movie. cabaret is an old favourite, but i haven't watched it since i read the book a year or two ago, and certain parts have suddenly become intensely personal. that's thanks to my life, not my reading. how did i get myself into a situation so similar to a cautionary tale i know so well? did gender issues direct my focus the wrong way, or did i never actually consider it cautionary? i suspect the latter. it always spoke to me, but now it's the pain, betrayal, vulnerability, internal conflict and compromise, irresponsibility, attachment and power relations, where maybe i used to see more of the freedom, risk, context, dissent, charm, integrity, intoxication, idealism, and waving the train goodbye with a smile.
these are still good, but did i think that i'd avoid the flipsides? or that they wouldn't hurt? or maybe just that they pass? maybe. maybe i was right after all.

Book Description:
Turbomachines are those in which energy is transferred to or from a continuously moving fluid by the motion of a rotating element. Some of the most common and important machines used in engineering and industry fall into this category, including those which absorb power (and thereby increase fluid pressure), such as fans, compressors and pumps. Also included are equally vital varieties of machines which generate power from the expansion of fluids to lower pressures such as hydraulic, steam and gas turbines.
This general definition embraces a number of devices that are classified as 'open', such as propellers, windmills and unshrouded fans. The machines examined here are those defined as 'closed', where a finite quantity of fluid can be considered to pass through the machine in unit time, for it is these which are of the most interest to students and professionals in the fields of mechanical, chemical, and plant engineering. It is in these areas that the devices that form the subject matter of this book find their most important applications, making this treatment of vital importance to anyone working in or studying them.
